Check out this crazy PMS fact:

PMS costs! Researchers at UCLA’s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center calculate that PMS costs $4,392 per year in direct medical costs, missed workdays, and lost productivity. In the 2005 study, researchers collected data 374 women aged eighteen to forty-five. Administrative health claims data showed that PMS cost $59 in direct costs each year and $4,333 indirect costs, such as missed workdays and lost productivity.

Think about how many days women are affected with PMS in a month. Let’s say 5 days a cycle you are feeling “off” . In a one year span that is 65 days a year of feeling less than stellar. That’s over 2 months!!! No way am I going to give away 2 months of my life per year to something that I can improve with healthy habits such as fitness and clean nutrition! Wait, think about that over the course of your life … THAT’S 6 YEARS over the course of your life!!! NO FREAKING WAY!

Cheers to happier, healhier women!!!

Love ya,

Lori

How I am appreciating my body

  • I rest as much as my body needs
  • I keep myself optimally hydrated
  • I fuel my body with nutrient dense foods
  • I get daily sunshine all over my body (yep, in the nude!)
  • I take time to floss, wash my face at night, skin brush, and do all the grooming things that keep all the small details of me healthy
  • I check myself out in the mirror and see what is going right versus what I think is wrong.
  • I thank my body for going through daily exercise
  • I get regular massages.
  • I sweat daily (via workout or sauna)
  • I balance my body with flexibility, strength, balance, cardiovascular health.
  • I get outside in the fresh air and spend time in nature very regularly ( right now this is daily)
How about you? I’d love to hear how you are appreciating the gift of an able body by posting it in the comments below!
Until tomorrow,

Lori

Today’s Workout
30 min walk in love
60 min yoga class
Playing on the rip stik with Alex & Meg 🙂

Today was an absolutely gorgeous day outside and I wanted to play around with the kids! I have always found fun ways to stay active with having kids. When my children were babies I used them as my “weight” and did resistance training with them! They loved it. I’d get really creative and we had fun bonding! As they got a little bigger I would use them to do acro-yoga poses and play around with balancing them. They even helped me recover from a back injury. Just check out this video below that I posted of  how Meg helped me with Low Back Pain in a yoga pose a few years ago.

Note: To see how Meg helped out start the video at 3:12. Otherwise, if you have low back pain watch the whole thing!

Note: I was really suffering with low back pain in this video and I am happy to say that I no longer have any low back pain. I attribute it to a healthy diet (I found a sluggish digestive track plays a role on low back pain) and yoga!

If you are a mother and you are wondering how you are going to get a workout in with babies and kiddos tugging on your pant legs I KNOW what you are going through! Been there and done that! I encourage you do be active with them. You are unlimited with ideas and options. Being a healthy mom and role model to our children is what this world needs. Other moms need that encouragement too! It seems very easy to hide behind the mommy excuse. Shine for them too! At the kids sports practice I would go for a run or do laps on the field. Soon other mothers would join in rather than just sitting around. In my neighborhood I would put on roller skates and GO…after a month or so I started seeing other mothers and even dads out skating with their kids. What a feeling of satisfaction!

Calling all you moms out there who are keeping it real and healthy… THANK YOU!!!!

If you are doing this 30 day fitness challenge, I want to encourage you to keep going! Think of this more like a daily practice and act of self love rather than asking yourself ,”When will I see results?” Moving your body is a privilege. I have had the honor of working with people who just beg for the ability to walk again.

To give you some perspective, I wrote a blog titled:  “MEET DREMA“. It’s a story about me helping a woman walk again after being bed ridden for over 28 years. After reading that it seems strange that we take our able bodies for granted.

When I was a child I LOVED gymnastics! However, once I got midway through high school I was no longer practicing and I lost all my gymnastics strength, and range of motion. I haven’t even attempted gymnastics training until today!

I did my best to remember a beginner workout and to share it with you!

I have to admit my yoga practice gave me a little help since I see yoga as gymnastics without the plyometrics!

I can’t wait to get my flexibility and strength back! Who says at 35 that it is too late to train your body to move in ways we did as kids? I am saying NO LIMITATIONS BABY!

Today’s Workout
45 min of playing around with gymnastics

What did you do today?
